I was walking around town with Tanja, my friend & very talented teacher on a Saturday afternoon, after a good yoga session in the park, looking for a cozy cafe. We were feeling pretty relaxed and weren't in the mood for coffee, yet still wanted something creamier than tea. Luckily, the place we chose had just the thing: curcuma latte...
The main ingredient of this golden drink is of course curcuma powder, also known as turmeric, which might well be the healthiest spice on earth due to its many scientifically proven benefits: antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, improves brain function & memory, lowers the risk of heart disease and could even prevent cancer.
Since the price of a curcuma latte in Zurich will make you feel like it contains actual gold, here is one of my favorite DIY recipes for you to enjoy it at home:
- 1 cup milk of your choice (I like almond mixed with coconut)
- 1 tsp curcuma powder
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
- 1/4 tsp ginger powder
- 1 pinch of vanilla powder
- 1 pinch of black pepper (increases the absorption of curcumin, the main antioxidant in curcuma)
- 1 tsp honey (optional)
- a bit of hot water
Fill the bottom of the cup with some boiling water (about 2cm) and mix all spices, creating a paste. Heat up the milk in a pot or even better, a milk frother if you have one, bring to a slight boil. Fill the cup with the milk, add the spoon of honey, mix well and enjoy this wonder drink
